Yvelines: Cécile Zammit-Popescu interim president of the urban community

Following the resignation of Raphaël Cognet, mayor of Mantes-la-Jolie and president (DVD) of the Grand-Paris-Seine-et-Oise urban community , GPS & O, accepted by the prefect on January 8, Cécile Zammit-Popescu, becomes interim president (DVD) of the urban community. The function falls to her by virtue of her position as first vice-president of the intercommunality, in accordance with the legislation.

The transition cannot exceed 13 days; a community council will be convened on 20 next January to elect the new council and its president. According to various sources, Cécile Zammit-Popescu could be confirmed, on this date, at the head of the urban community. However, other candidates may declare themselves by then. The elected official becomes the third president of the young urban community (created on January 1 2016), after Philippe Tautou , former mayor (LR) of Verneuil-sur-Seine and Raphaël Cognet.

Re-elected in the canton of Mureaux

Cécile Zammit-Popescu, 51 years old, has also been mayor of Meulan-en-Yvelines since 2014 and departmental councillor. She chairs the Departmental Commission for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport. Cécile Zammit-Popescu succeeded in 2021, with her running mate Marc Herz, mayor of Ecquevilly, to be re-elected in the canton of Mureaux. The left however hoped to win a victory in the canton during these departmental thanks to the vote of the municipality of Mureaux, led by François Garray (DVG) since 20.

Cécile Zammit-Popescu holds a doctorate in the history and civilization of antiquity and taught for a few years at the Sorbonne. She then held various positions as a collaborator of politicians (parliament, ministerial cabinet, local authority), before devoting herself entirely to her duties as an elected official since 2015.
