Windows 11: Some screens are experiencing color issues due to a bug

If you have noticed color problems in certain applications since your switch to Windows 11, You are not the only one. Many users have reported similar problems to the manufacturer.

Microsoft has finally confirmed that it had indeed detected an issue that could affect devices running Windows 11 version 21H2. The company indicates that applications that use Win21 APIs to render colors on HDR screens are affected.

Normally, HDR displays allow users to experience a wider color gamut, resulting in more vivid colors and more detailed highlights. With Windows 11 however, not everything goes as planned. After installing Windows 11, some image editing programs may not render colors correctly on some HDR displays. Microsoft says the issue is commonly seen with white colors, which may display as bright yellow or other colors. A major problem when using your computer to perform photo or video editing.

Awaiting a fix

At this time, unfortunately, there is no temporary solution to correct the problem. The Redmond firm has announced that it is currently working on a fix, but it will be necessary to wait until the end of January to have access to it. If you have an HDR display and want to upgrade your computer to Windows 11 or update Windows 11 to version 21H2, we strongly recommend that you wait for this fix to be released.
