The changes of men in the sugar sphere are not always violent. Contrary to the internal struggles which agitated Tereos, the world’s second sugar producer, there was no palace revolution at Cristal Union . Its new general manager, Xavier Astolfi, will gently replace Alain Commissioner at the helm of the cooperative he created twenty years ago with Jean-François Javoy. The latter also gives up his place of secretary general to Vanina Paolaggi, a former lawyer specializing in mergers and acquisitions.

“Cristal does not exclude acquisitions, but will make them within the European perimeter “, specifies the new general manager. Xavier Astolfi takes over the operational management of Cristal Union, known for its consumer brand Daddy, in a much more favorable economic climate, after years of very deep crisis and falling sugar prices linked to the global context. Prices are now flirting with 54 euros per ton, thanks to a drop in production by the world leader, Brazil, and the decline in Thailand.
