Promise kept? Last month Elon Musk announced that Tesla would soon accept Dogecoin as a means of payment. And indeed, you can now buy some goodies on the Tesla Store with cryptocurrency. Still, look no further: you still won’t be able to buy a car in crypto, even if you really have a lot of Dogecoin.
The news in any case pleased both the creator and the investors of the blockchain. Indeed, Billy Markus took over the info from Tesla on his personal Twitter account. And the price of Dogecoin rose by 17% following the announcement. In an interview, Elon Musk explained why he believes in this cryptocurrency, which is paradoxically not fundamentally the most solid concept on the market.
You can now buy some Tesla Goodies in Dogecoin
The entrepreneur has indeed realized that many of his employees hold Dogecoin. The latter also said in an interview that Dogecoin “encourages people to spend it rather than keep it as a reserve value”. Bitcoin is comparatively a large emitter of greenhouse gases due to mining.
Transaction fees are high, and de facto Bitcoin is increasingly used as a reserve asset. So what can you buy on the Tesla site with these Dogecoins? According to Mashable, only a handful of gadget items are available for purchase with this payment method. The Cyberwhistle, the Cybertruck-shaped whistle, was proposed to 62 DOGE ( 51,62 euros at the time when we write these lines). But it is now out of stock.
You can also still buy a Gigi Texas Belt Buckle – in other words a big Texas belt buckle with the most beautiful effect (if you like Country dancing) with the SpaceX logo embossed (we almost regret that the manufacturer does not also sell the Santiagues that go with it…) – for the modest sum of 835 DOGE either 62,62 €. Or the famous Cyberquad for Kids sold 12 17 DOGE either 835,93 €.
