The 19 year old South Tyrolean, n. 24 of the ranking and fifth seeded, beat the 26 year old US Mackenzie McDonald (b. 107) for 7-5 4-6 7-5.
For Sinner, who did not take part in the Tokyo Olympics, this is the third title in his career.
From today Sinner rises to n. 15 of the ATP ranking, his best ranking. The 19 year old from Sesto Pusteria (Bolzano) also becomes the youngest winner of a ‘500’. And he is the second Italian to reach the final in all three categories of ATP tournaments (250, 500 and 1000) in the same season after Matteo Berrettini, but the first to win in Washington.
