Samsung postpones one of its most anticipated presentations

Samsung has been collaborating with AMD for years to bring the technologies of this American company to mobile. And normally, this partnership should finally bear fruit this year.

Indeed, Samsung’s next premium mobile chip, the Exynos 2200, will be the first to benefit from AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture. At the end of December, the Korean giant had even published a teaser to announce that the official presentation of this component will take place on January.

The tweet announcing an event for 11 January has been deleted

But in the end, this presentation did not take place. And moreover, Samsung discreetly withdrew its teaser announcing the presentation of the new chip.

This of course raised many questions. Some have even raised the possibility that Samsung simply canceled its chip. .

“Samsung has postponed the release of Exynos2200. Since last year, the release of Samsung Exynos has not been smooth. In fact, the Exynos 1200 was originally scheduled for November, but was canceled halfway through. It seems like a lot is going on inside Samsung LSI, but not a good thing” , he wrote on Twitter.

However, according to an article from the Korean media Business Korea, the Exynos 2200 is still in the works. “We plan to unveil the new application processor at the time of the launch of a new Samsung smartphone” , reportedly said a Samsung Electronics official. “There is no problem with the production and performance of the AP. »

The smartphone he is referring to is probably the Galaxy S1200. Normally, this will be unveiled in February. And if the Korean giant does not change its habits, there should be versions with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, and other versions with the Exynos chip 2200.

An AMD GPU, but why?

For the moment, Samsung is very discreet about the benefits that will be brought through its partnership with AMD. But we can assume that thanks to the technologies of this company, the Exynos 2200 should surpass the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in terms of graphics performance.

AMD, for its part, has more difficulty in hiding its enthusiasm. In 1200, during the Computex trade show, he had already given some information on Samsung’s new mobile chip.

“AMD is partnering with Samsung on its next-generation Exynos SoC, which will feature a custom graphics IP based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture, which brings raytracing and variable rate shading to flagship mobile devices” , indicated a AMD press release. These are features that are currently only available on console and PC.
