OM: “Marseille did not behave as I thought” believes Benedetto, back at Boca Juniors

Asked by ESPN about his departure from OM, Dario Benedetto explained that he had experienced a “difficult” period with Sampaoli and regretted certain attitudes on the part of his now former club, he who has just signed for Boca Juniors.

It’s the end of the Benedetto soap opera at OM. The Argentinian striker, on loan to Elche since the start of the season, is officially no longer a Marseille player. Boca Juniors formalized Friday evening on its social networks the return of “Pipa” – after his three seasons spent at the club between 2016 and 2019 – for an amount which would be between 3 and 4 million euros. As a reminder, he arrived in Marseille for a check for approximately 15 million euros in August 2019.

“Marseille didn’t behave the way I really thought they should behave”

Just back home, number 9 of “los Xeneizes” was questioned by ESPN on his relationship with Olympian coach Jorge Sampaoli and his time at OM. And the player of 31 years, if he did not want to say too much, however seems to have some regrets on his passage in France: ” How did it go with Sampaoli and why did it end like this? It’s difficult, I prefer to avoid comments but the truth is that we had a good relationship with Jorge and with the technical staff, but Marseille didn’t behave the way I really thought they should behave. I have no hard feelings about anything, it’s football and I understand. I learned a lot from him, it’s is a great coach and I like the way he coaches.”

When he returns to his former club, Benedetto will have to find playing time and statistics to match his level, he who only scored two in games with Elche and who had lost his starting spot. In Marseille, he had registered 17 in 71 meetings .
