Mario Kart 9 is in development for Switch and could bring big changes

To say that Mario Kart 9 is in development is an open secret. The last opus dates back to 20 May 2014 with Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. In 2017, Nintendo offered a remaster of its game for the Switch. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting a new album. As the budding pilots get ready, it looks like the game is in full development and an announcement isn’t that far away, according to Kantan Games analyst Dr. Serkan Toto.

Mario Kart 9: an ad in 2022?

It was during an interview with the site GamesIndustry that Dr. Serkan Toto, analyst at the Japanese firm Kantan Games has confirmed the development of Mario Kart 9. According to the latter, the game is in full production and should bring many changes to the license. Nintendo could even announce the title this year.

I am aware that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to sell very well on Nintendo Switch. But Mario Kart 9 is in active development (and he comes up with a new idea). And Nintendo could teaser it this year.

Dr Serkan Toto, analyst at Kantan Games

The analysis does not weigh its words and does not speak of hypothesis. He confirms that Mario Kart 9 is in “active development” with a new idea. The only question concerns the advertisement. Nintendo is he ready to lift the veil on this long awaited opus this year? One thing is almost certain, the release would not be planned for 2022.

Regarding the “new idea ”, The possibilities are numerous. The game could feature a story mode similar to that of Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled. Or, these possibilities could relate to the arrival of new characters with special moves to approach the model of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

To date, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has passed over 33 million copies on Switch and is still a staple well used to the best-selling video game rankings every week. A not insignificant comfort for Nintendo who can therefore take their time to announce the continuation!
