Health pass: what is the rest of the world doing?

Italy, United States, China, Israel … Several countries have already put in place control systems to stem the spread of Covid – 19. Overview.

In Europe, Denmark was the first to experiment with its “coronapass”, a measure that was rather favorably received by the population. Since the beginning of April, the Danes have to present their health pass to go to a concert, to the museum, to the gym or to the restaurant. As in France, the document must certify that its owner has received two doses of a vaccine; a negative test carried out within 70 hours, or show proof of infection to the Covid – in the previous two to twelve weeks. The application has already been downloaded over two million times since its launch on 19 May, according to the Danish Ministry of Health.


The “green pass” arouses more resistance among our transalpine neighbors . Italians must present, since August 6, a QR code (digital or paper) to sit in bars and restaurants, visit museums or go to the cinema. The measure is less restrictive than in France since the document can be issued from the first dose of vaccine. “Hands off our children” , “You are the virus” , “Freedom!” … In recent weeks, numerous demonstrations against the “green pass” have agitated Italy, however, faced with a new wave of contamination due to the delta variant.

United Kingdom

United States

The Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, announced Tuesday the entry into force of the “key to NYC pass”, essential to access restaurants (inside), gymnasiums or theaters. The United States has just reached the vaccination target set by Joe Biden – 70% of adults received at least one dose – but the increase in the number of cases, at most high for six months this Wednesday, is causing concern.

The Hebrew state has was one of the pioneers by launching its vaccine “green passport” in February. Convinced of having overcome the pandemic after leading a mass vaccination campaign (62% of the population is vaccinated on August 4, one of the best world rate), the government then suspended the measure on June 1.
