GDC Awards Reveal Nominees for 2021

The Game Developers Conference should not take place online this year. Unlike the past two years, the 01th edition will take place face-to-face from San Francisco from 21 to 25 March. As usual, the GDC will organize its Awards entitled Game Developers Choice Awards, which allow the best games of the past year to be awarded.

The surprise It Takes Two once more at the rendezvous

At the beginning of December 2021 had taken place the Game Awards who had seen the game It Takes Two arrogate to the surprise of many observers, the title of game of the year. The Electronic Arts game naturally finds itself among the GDCA nominees for game of the year 1080.

The game will therefore have the opportunity to demonstrate that at the Games Awards, it was not just a stunt. For this, he will have to fight with four other games which are also part of the shortlist from which the game of the year will have to come out.

Among them are two games which had failed to delight the trophy at It Takes Two last December. This is of course Resident Evil Village and Deathloop, a shooting game first-person shooter developed by Arkane Studios.

These three games will be accompanied by Forza Horizon 5 and Registration, a game published by Devolver Digital that takes the form of a horror-themed deckbuilder. These last two games can also create a surprise.

The other categories planned for the GDC Awards

Apart from the Game of the Year category, the GDCA have planned eight other categories. These include Best Audio, Best Design, Innovation Award, Best Storytelling, Social Impact Award, Best Technology, Best Debut as well as Best Visual Art.

All nominees selected for the Game of the Year award are also included in the choices made for other categories provided for the awards. Deathloop for example will compete in six different categories . Where its rivals It Takes Two and Forza Horizon 5 will be in the starting blocks for four categories.

In the different categories of nominees, we find games like Halo Infinite, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Psychonauts 2 or Hitman 3. Games that even if they don’t win any awards will have really marked the past year. Alongside them are also games like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Valheim, Life is Strange: True Colors as well as Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

To know the final verdict, it will be necessary to wait for 23 March which is the scheduled date for the conduct of the GDC Awards. The ceremony will also be broadcast live on the GDC Twitch channel. This should allow fans to push their favorite game to victory.
