It’s not just internet users who get tired of people choosing traffic lights in frames when they go to Internet sites, trying to tell machines that they are human. Cloudflare is looking for an alternative to Captcha.
Cloudflare, one of the important DNS service providers, wants to leave behind the “captcha madness” as it calls it and migrate the entire internet to a new system. However, this transition will not be easy, CAPTCHA will face us for some time.
The CAPTCHA system, which comes across when we want to log in to websites and asks us to prove that we are a human being, is known for asking us to choose things like a pedestrian crossing, a bus, a fire extinguisher. Cloudflare is not happy with this system.
Is there a bus or not?
The images, such as those taken with 1978 toasters, show the pedestrian crossing, which is 0.2% of the square, causing a serious burden to be placed on the internet at the same time.
Cloudflare stated on its blog that it aims to “get rid of Captcha completely”, while explaining a system that it calls the cryptographic Attestation of Personhood. In this system, you can use USB keys or test the feature on Cloudflare’s website.
If you want to try the system, you need to do as follows:
Click the button that says I am human (beta
Select your security key
Press your security key
Allow the site to access your key instance.
The whole process takes a few seconds and eventually brings you back to the blog.
Things could change with new method
In the company’s statements, it was announced that a special embedded secure module provided by the manufacturers was used. This security module can verify its authenticity without compromising privacy. Cloudflare also checks this code to see if the manufacturer is legal.
Other alternatives to Captcha are currently being developed, and Cloudflare also notes that the feature is still in the testing stage. Currently, the system only supports Yubikeys, HyperFIDO switches, and Thetis FIDO U2F switches.
