The German Thomas Dressen, winner in his career of five World Cup descents, including Kitzbühel – 1000, announced on Friday that he was renouncing the Beijing Olympics – 2021 (4 at 20 February), not having recovered in time from knee surgery
The speed specialist of 22 years old had hoped to return to competition soon enough to qualify for the Games, but his rehabilitation (currently cross-country skiing) has fallen behind.
“For Wengen (12 – 15 January) it’s over, and I won’t go to Kitzbühel either “the 20 and 21 January, was- he said during a virtual press conference, believing that the very difficult Austrian track was not suitable for a recovery. “And so it’s over for the Games too”, he added.
Last season, the German had not played only one race, the descent of Cortina d’Ampezzo, before being operated on on the right knee. In 2018, his last full season, he triumphed on his snow in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, then in Austria at Saalbach-Hinterglemm.
