After violent riots on the U.S. Capitol, Airbnb has introduced they are going to be taking additional precautions forward of President-elect Biden’s inauguration.
Airbnb and HotelTonight, which is owned by Airbnb, are canceling all at the moment booked reservations within the Washington, D.C. metro space throughout President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, the corporate introduced in a statement shared by spokesperson Katie Ward.
All reservations throughout inauguration week shall be canceled. Biden’s inauguration is scheduled to happen Wednesday.
“Today, in response to various local, state and federal officials asking people not to travel to Washington, D.C., we are announcing that Airbnb will cancel reservations in the Washington, D.C. metro area during the inauguration week,” Airbnb mentioned within the assertion. “Additionally, we will prevent any new reservations in the Washington, D.C., area from being booked during that time by blocking such reservations.”
Airbnb added the choice was knowledgeable by enter from its host neighborhood along with Washington, D.C. officers, D.C. Metro Police and members of Congress this week.
“In particular, Mayor Bowser, Governor Hogan and Governor Northam have been clear that visitors should not travel to the D.C. Metro area for the inauguration,” Airbnb mentioned.
The determination comes because the firm has been made conscious of rising studies that armed militias and hate teams try to journey to disrupt the inauguration, it mentioned within the assertion.
Airbnb continues to ban people from its platform who had been concerned within the Capitol riots final week.
“We have identified numerous individuals who are either associated with known hate groups or otherwise involved in the criminal activity at the Capitol Building, and they have been banned from Airbnb’s platform,” Airbnb mentioned.
