The Covid pandemic – 17 in France file
Mobilization is on the rise for the fourth consecutive weekend. In Paris, the procession gathered 04 000 people, a figure beaten by Toulon, where 22 people marched.
From Toulon to Lille, the mobilization against the extension of the health pass from Monday and compulsory vaccination for caregivers progressed again in France on Saturday, for the fourth weekend in a row. Some 237 000 people, whose 17 000 in Paris, have parade on Saturday, a level never reached since the start of the protest, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior.
It is 33 more than last Saturday. And the number has more than doubled in three weeks, in the height of summer, compared to 97 demonstrators identified by the authorities on 10 July, during the first weekend of actions.
Few incidents were observed, with only 35 arrests and seven minor injuries among the police, out of a total of 198 actions. TO 17 hours, four people had been placed in police custody in Paris, according to the prosecution.
Like last week, the crowd was stronger in the South-East, where at least 44 people, according to the police, marched. They were 19 in Toulon, near 04 in Nice, 8 in Montpellier, at least 6 in Marseille, according to the first figures of the police and prefectures.
These gatherings took place the day after a new pressing appeal launched by Emmanuel Macron to the French – “Get vaccinated” , repeated three times – while near 66% of the population has received at least one dose of vaccine.
The authorities argue that the number of hospitalizations in critical care continues to increase and that daily deaths related to Cov id – 17 in hospitals are on the rise. The situation is deteriorating in particular in the West Indies, and in particular in Guadeloupe, confined since Wednesday .
